Work starts on the national football stadium in Bratislava

6 March 2015

Following a lengthy court dispute, ground work has started on the national football stadium site in Bratislava. District officials ruled that the project has a valid planning and construction permit, refuting arguments from prosecutors who claim a 2011 zoning decision, which allowed the project to move forward, was not in line with the changes to Bratislava’s master plan. District officials, however, say the changes do not affect the location of the football stadium.

The national football stadium will be able to fit 20,000 spectators and will also include a shopping center, a hotel and office space. The project is expected to cost €70m, with €27m coming from the state.
