Wroclaw Airport has announced a tender for the expansion and modernization of the airside, including the construction of a new taxiway and apron. The project will be worth PLN 350 million, and half of this amount will be covered by EU funds. Work will begin in the first quarter of 2024, the airport said.
“Investment in the airport’s airside is our flagship project and a guarantee that air traffic in the heart of Lower Silesia will continue to grow steadily. Thanks to Poland’s largest investment in the airside zone, we will be able to shorten the waiting time for planes to take off and land, which will translate into an increase in the airport’s capacity,” said CEO Cezary Pacamaj.
The investment plan includes both the construction of new facilities and the adaptation of existing infrastructure elements to the changes that will take place in the airside of Wroclaw’s port. The investment will include a new taxiway parallel to the runway, as well as an apron for aircraft. Both facilities will improve movement within the airport. The main contractor will also handle the construction of an aircraft de-icing plane and a rapid exit road. In addition, already existing taxiways will be adjusted to the layout of the newly constructed infrastructure elements, the material listed.
The investment is worth PLN 350 million. For its implementation, European Union funding was obtained under the Connecting Europe Facility, which will cover about 50% of the project’s implementation costs. The goal is to increase operational capabilities for military aviation, but the modernization will also benefit civil aviation, it was announced.
Potential contractors can submit bids until November 14. Wroclaw Airport plans to select the winner of the tender in late 2023 and early 2024, while work will begin in the first quarter of 2024. The time allowed for the investment is 26 months from the signing of the contract with the contractor, is was concluded.
