Zeman irked by Trump’s congratulations snub

26 March 2018

The daily Lidove noviny reports that Czech president Miloš Zeman continues to be annoyed by the lack of recognition he’s getting from his American counterpart Donald Trump that he’s long sought. Having failed to win an invitation to the Oval Office during his first term of office, Zeman is now reportedly vexed not to have at least received any congratulations from the American president for his re-election victory two months ago. This is believed to have been the result, in part, of his openly pro-Russian orientation, which naturally won him a note of congratulations from Vladimir Putin. Ironically, Trump is now being criticized for a recent telephone call with Putin in which he congratulated him for his re-election in which he claimed to have more than 70 percent of the vote. Zeman will not be inviting the visiting politician American Paul Ryan, which some observers are classifying as a result of his annoyance at the situation.
