Czech entrepreneur Zdeněk Zemek plans to build another spa in Piešťany, Slovakia. A thermal swimming pool, which will be open year-round, will be built in the first phase, followed by a wellness hotel complex in the second phase. A small spa will go up in the third phase. The investor still needs approval to tap the thermal water. Piešťany Mayor Miloš Tamajka supports the plan. Zemek, through his company, Z-group, already owns a 6.5 ha plot outside Piešťany and plans to invest €10m to building the thermal swimming pool. Zemek says that his project will not compete with the city’s existing spa as it will only offer between 150 and 200 beds, one-tenth of what’s on offer at the existing spa. In addition to the spa business, Zemek’s company is involved in bus transport, engineering and metallurgy in the Czech Republic.
