The Slovak daily SME is reporting that the city of Žilina expects South Korean automobile supplier Sungwoo to build a major factory. Mayor Igor Choma said the company’s €50m investment in the former Doprastav complex in the more industrial section of the city. “Although the decision is not 100 percent certain, because there are still negotiations ongoing in the Czech Republic, I would guess that it’s 95 percent certain that the decision will be for Žilina. We’re negotiating very intensively with the Koreans and the city fully supports this project.” He estimated the factory would create 800 jobs and said the company would likely supply companies such as Hyundai Motors and KIA Motors.
