Construction work has begun on the retail portion of the master planned Gables Upper Rock in Rockville by the JBG Companies. Located off Shady Grove Road at Interstate 270, the Upper Rock District retail center will sit on a 4.5 acre site consisting of three single-story buildings with a total of 34,700 sqf of leasable space. The center will be anchored by a 14,600 sqf CVS Pharmacy and a 16,000 sqf MOM’s Organic Market. The Upper Rock District is a 20-acre retrofit of a suburban office park which was master-planned by architect Andres Duany. Upper Rock encompasses a 522-unit apartment community (77 Upper Rock), a 73,700 sqf office building, and a central community green space.
“We’re really pleased to have MOM’s and CVS joining the Upper Rock District,” said JBG’s Kristi Smith, senior vice president of development. “With a resident base well established at Gables Upper Rock and renovated office space planned to deliver next year, a neighborhood market and pharmacy are fantastic amenity additions to the community.”
