Data4 has announced a €300 million investment to develop a new data centre in Paiania, Athens. This move is part of Data4’s €7 billion European expansion plan, aimed at bolstering its position as a leading data centre operator across the continent.
The new facility, named ATH1, will cover 7.5 hectares and provide up to 90 MW of power. It is expected to create over 500 permanent jobs and drive local economic growth. The investment aligns with the company’s strategy to cater to increasing demand for data centres, especially for artificial intelligence applications.
Adam Ponichtera, director of Data4’s Polish branch, noted that Greece’s strategic location and connectivity make it a valuable addition to their network. By 2030, Europe’s data centre capacity is expected to triple, with significant growth in AI-related infrastructure.
Data4 aims to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ certification for ATH1, reflecting its commitment to sustainability. This certification will mark a milestone as the first BREEAM-certified data centre in Greece, setting new industry standards.
Olivier Micheli, CEO of Data4, emphasized that this investment will not only support Data4’s expansion but also enhance Greece’s digital ecosystem and economic prospects.
