Czechoslovak millionaires investing in farmland

1 June 2016

Farmland is among the most popular investments among wealthy Czechs, according to information compiled by J&T Banka in a poll of 200 Czech and Slovak businessmen with over USD 1m on their accounts. Millionaires tend to be conservative in their decisions, and prefer to invest into their own business, land or property. Just 20 percent of their money tends to go into shares and other investments, which they perceive as risky. Property typically makes up for 25 percent of their portfolio, with 40 percent of those polled millionaires pointing to farmland as the most yielding investment. Czech farmland is among the cheapest in Europe, even though its price has doubled to CZK 15/sqm in the last decade. 100,000 hectares of fields and meadows change hands annually in the Czech Republic.
