IKEA testing first e-shop in Prague

27 May 2016

IKEA is beginning to test the first phase of its e-commerce development in the Czech Republic, with a click-and-collect system that will be implemented at its Zličín store. Shoppers can choose and pay for their goods on-line and then pick them up at the store. By the end of the year, Ikea expects to allow shoppers to pick up their goods at its other stores. IKEA’s General director Marek Feltl told Hospodářské noviny that the company is looking for external distribution points as well to enable cheaper and easier delivery to the customers. The store’s competitors Sconto Nábytek and Asko Nábytek have been operating e-shops already for some time now. Czech shoppers spent CZK 35bn on furniture last year, up by CZK 3bn y-o-y. IKEA has the largest market share, followed by XXX Lutz, Jysk, Asko Nábytek, Sconto Nábytek and Kika.
