Globus to invest CZK 4bn into network small format shops

13 May 2016

Hypermarket chain Globus plans to invest CZK 4bn over the next three years into a chain of small grocery stores in city center. It also plans to give its hypermarkets a facelift, expand the network and launch a new e-shop. In order to cut costs, it will be installing self-service Scan & go machines in all 15 of its hypermarkets, which have seen rising profits over the last three years. “This triggered the decision to invest,” Bronislav Matyšek, head of development of new channels for Globus told Lidovky.cz. He says the small format stores will clear the way for Globus to move into city centers and reach new customers. Matyšek says that the company will have to update its logistics chain in order to be able to offer fresh food through its planned e-shop.
