The European Commission has approved the bid by the Bridgepoint fund to take over the Smyk, the Polish toy store chain. A preliminary agreement has been signed for the transaction, whose volume is expected to exceed PLN 1bn, including PLN 634.8m purchase price. Set up in 1952, Smyk is a part of Empik Media & Fashion group. The network currently amounts to 125 stores in Poland, including large-scale formats, as well as small and medium-sized location in traditional shopping and outlet centers.
The company is also developing its product line in Russia, Germany, Romania and Ukraine for which Smyk has recently introduced a “shop-in-shop” concept.
