Electricity prices in Lithuania dropped to a record low last week following an increase in imports from Nordic states through an underwater 700 MW cable to Sweden, according to power operator Litgrid. Prices averaged €27.70 per MWh, down 14 percent from the previous week and 33 percent y-o-y.
“That was the lowest weekly price in Lithuania since the country joined the Nordic power market (in 2012),” Litgrid said. “This was a reaction to the start of trial operations of the Lithuanian-Swedish power link, NordBalt, on Feb. 18.” NordBalt is expected to decrease Lithuania’s dependence on Russian power imports.
