GE to invest CZK 10bn in Czech plane engines plant

19 January 2016

GE plans to build an aviation R&D and manufacturing plant in the Czech Republic for the design and production of engines for medium and small-sized planes. The facility is expected to cost around CZK 10bn and was the subject of a memorandum signed recently with Czech prime minister Bohuslav Sobotka. The plant is expected to create 900 new jobs. Last year, GE revealed that Czech Republic was high on its list of potential locations for the investment, listing Prague as its favored location. It’s not known yet where the plant would be built, however GE Aviation currently produces air engines in a facility in Prague Letňany, which it bought from Walter Engines in 2008. The new plant is scheduled for completion in 2020.
