Greece registered a decrease of 5.3 percent in supermarket sales in November 2015 compared to the same month of 2014. According to IRI, this is the biggest November drop in the last three years. This translated into a 2.5 percent fall in sales over the first 11 months of 2015. German discounter Lidl was the exception, registering a 1.4 percent year-on-year rise.

Supermarkets like Carrefour, Grand Masoutis, Sklavenitis, My Market and Proton are still operating in Greece, but some retailers like Aldi, Dia and Plus have exited the country.
