Retail turnover on the Romanian market increased by 8.2 percent in the first 11 months of last year compared with the same period in 2014, according to the National Statistics Institute.
Food, drinks and tobacco sales increased by 18.4 percent, while fuel sales went up 6.1 percent and manufactured goods rose 1.8 percent. The VAT on food sales was lowered in June from 24 percent to 9 percent, which contributed to the growth. Overall retail turnover in November increased 15 percent y-o-y and 2.3 percent m-o-m.
