Publix Super Markets Inc. has confirmed reports that it intends to build a store in downtown Tampa. The new 37,600 square foot retail center will be located on a vacant block between Twiggs and Madison streets in the Channel district and will feature rooftop parking. “This really drives homes the reality that downtown Tampa has become a place to live, work and play,” Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn said.
“Publix is excited about the opportunity to serve the Channel District community,” wrote Publix spokesman Brian West in an email Tuesday. “We are diligently working with our developer, Mercury Advisors, the city and the mayor to make this project a reality. While there is still work to be done, including final contracts and the permitting process, we are confident that all parties want to see the successful completion of this project.”
