Slovak Stavmat and Czech Pro-doma are vying to take over Raab Karcher, a building materials retailer operated by Saint-Gobain. The network includes 53 shops and storage spaces with an annual turnover of CZK 2.5bn. The company, however, reported a CZK 34m loss last year. Saint-Gobain is hoping to get CZK 1bn from the sale. Pavol Kollár, the Slovak owner of Stavmat Stavebniny, has reportedly been granted exclusivity by Saint-Gobain, which terminates in mid-September. If he does not close the deal by then, Czech company Pro-doma is set to buy Raab Karcher. Pro-doma is the second biggest building materials retailers on the Czech market. Its owner, Petr Vaněrka, hopes the acquisition will help the company dominate the market, writes Hospodářské noviny.
