In one of Poland’s biggest transactions Agro Brusno sold roughly 3,200 ha of land to an undisclosed buyer, spread across several municipalities within the West Pomeranian voivodeship, near Połczyn-Zdrój. The value of the transaction is being kept under wraps. “This deal of 3,200 ha which constitutes 32,000,000 sqm, comparable to 4,500 soccer fields or almost the entire area of Mokotów district in Warsaw, is probably the largest transaction of agricultural land, excluding the Agricultural Property Agency sales,” says Daniel Puchalski, Head of Land Advisory Services at JLL. He said the deal highlights growing interest in large plots of land from investors across Poland as the countdown to May 1, 2016 continues. That’s the day from which citizens from the European Economic Area and Switzerland will be able to buy land in Poland without government approval, just like citizens of the country.
But Puchalski says the Polish Senate is currently examining a proposal to impose new restrictions on transactions for agricultural land. “The proposed law passed by the Polish Parliament on June 25 will supersede the current regulation regarding the shaping of the agricultural system, and introduce changes within other legal acts applicable to this part of the market,” says Puchalski.
