Tesco Polska has dismissed Ryszard Tomaszewski as CEO of of the company after nine years in the position, according to several news reports. David Morris, longtime head of the company’s Czech operations, will replace Tomaszewski, who had worked for Tesco for the past 20 years.
“Tesco is currently working to establish one team to oversee four markets in Europe, including Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary,” Tesco’s spokesman Michał Sikora said. Tesco has announced its intention to increase its focus on specific markets. “These changes are strengthening the organization and makes it possible for us to provide higher quality service to our clients,” the company wrote in a statement.
Morris says in a video on YouTube that country offices will be kept, but its staff levels will be reduced, leading to cost savings. Morris adds that decreasing revenues and increasing costs of the central headquarters operations led to a drop in profits.
