Hungary’s state statistics office (KSH) revealed that retail sales rose 5.6 percent in December 2014, compared to the previous December. The uptick in the pace of sales was even better than the 5.1 percent increase recorded in November. Leading the way were sales of non-food items, which rose 7.6 percent, while fuel sales for motor vehicles jumped 10.7 percent, outstripping the 8.6 percent jump the previous month. For the year, non-food sales rose 5.4 percent while Hungarians spent 4.8 percent more on food in 2014 than they did in 2013.
