The Czech Republic and Austria are the most popular shopping destinations for Slovaks, according to figures compiled by Visa Europe. In Austria, Slovak shoppers spent €80m, while in the Czech Republic they spent €60m. In Hungary, they used their Visa cards on €40m worth of purchases. Despite the numbers, Slovaks prefer paying in cash, according to Visa Europe, which estimates that 49 percent of purchases made by Slovaks were done in cash. Visa card payments made up 39 percent. Czechs and Brits are among the most active foreign shoppers in Slovakia. The Czechs spent €100m in Slovakia in September, while Brits spent €50m. Germans came in third with €25m, followed by Poles who spent €20m.
