Yosaria Plaza, a long-planned, but never-built five-story shopping center for Bratislava’s Ružinov district, has suddenly been transformed into a political flashpoint. The district’s municipal elections are set for November, and Ružinov Mayor Dušan Pekár is using the opportunity to claim a new investor is interested in taking over the project from developer Ivan Líška.
Trend Reality, however, disputes this claim, writing that there has been no change in the shareholding structure of the Yosaria Plaza project company. Líška has been chairman since 2005. The construction company Doprastav got involved in 2007 as a co-investor, but later withdrew from the project. The plot was set to be sold in 2010, but the auction was cancelled, and the project’s construction permit has since expired. A few new shopping malls have gone up in Bratislava in the meantime, leading to doubts over the viability of the SK 2.5bn project.
