E-sales up 10% in H1

E-retailers on the Czech market sold CZK 29bn worth of goods in the first half of 2014, up 10 percent y-o-y, according to official figures. Tomáš Braverman, director of the online shopping portal Heureka, told the daily Hospodářské noviny that low prices for goods as well as delivery and other services makes Internet shopping more attractive for customers.

Large e-retailers were the most successful, including Mall.cz, whose revenues jumped by 40 percent y-o-y. Another e-retailer, CZC.cz, increased its sales by 50 percent. Books and sporting goods account for the most Internet sales, with book sales up 31 percent y-o-y. After the Czech central bank weakened the crown last fall, prices of electronics went up, and sales decreased. Notebook sales dropped by 31 percent and tablet sales fell by 24 percent.
