After prolonged negotiations, HB Reavis has scrapped plans to build an Aupark shopping center in the Slovak city of Trenčín. The developer said the cost of the project would be too high. HB Reavis would be forced to invest millions into public infrastructure surrounding the mall, the developer’s CEO, Adrian Rác, told the server etrend.sk. The project had also been significantly reduced in the planning process.
HB Reavis will return the 7,000 sqm plot it bought from the city in exchange for €681,000. The server eTrend writes that HB Reavis planned to build Aupark if it acquired additional land it needed for the project from the Slovak Railway Authority. However, a deal was never concluded. The city council has approved the agreement. Trenčín Mayor Richard Rybníček said that the city will now consider alternative options for the plot.
