The Warsaw Stock Exchange-listed retailer Eurocash has taken a controlling stake (51 percent) in the Inmedio newspaper network, which includes 410 stores located mainly in shopping centers across Poland. The seller is HDS Polska, a division of the Lagardère Services group, which also signed a franchise agreement with Eurocash concerning HDS’s other branded convenience stores, 1minute. The value of the transactions has not been disclosed. Both agreements still need to be approved by the Polish Antimonopoly Office.
“Thanks to the agreement with HDS Polska, Eurocash gained a partner with unique know-how on the Polish convenience stores market. HDS will be managing the Inmedio chain, while Eurocash will be focusing on developing the franchise and increasing the competitiveness of the network by providing comprehensive supply chain services,” said Jacek Owczarek, a Eurocash board member.
