Sixteen years after foreign retailers first entered the Romanian market, there are now 1,008 modern retail stores operating in the region, according to the daily Ziarul Financiar. In a total investment worth €16.5m, 11 new retail stores have opened in the country since the beginning of this year, according to ZF.
The Belgian Group Mega Image opened four new locations last month, including a 1,600 sqm concept store, the largest Mega Image store in Romania. Lidl opened three new stores and Carrefour opened two new locations this year, while Profi and Kauland opened one new store each. Retailers opened 236 new stores nationwide last year, a record for the local market.
