Boasting its presence in the city of Constanta, Carrefour has bought six stores from Aliment Murfatlar. The French retailer will likely rebrand its new acquisitions as Carrefour Express, its supermarket chain. The company had previously only had one hypermarket in the city.
With 25 hypermarkets, 52 supermarkets and 5 mini markets in its regional network, Carrefour Romania ended 2011 with a €1.1bn turnover.
Aliment Murfatlar is part of the sunflower oil producer Argus Constanta and the baking manufacturer Dobrogea Group.
