The Prague-Zbraslav municipal district is set to embark on an ambitious project to develop a new cultural campus, which will feature a range of new and upgraded facilities, including a building for the local elementary art school (ZUŠ) and a revamped library. Mayor Kateřina Pavlíková (independent for Nezávislá Zbraslav) announced the project details in a statement.
The proposed campus, to be situated in the lower part of Zbraslav near the river and central square, aims to address the growing need for modern educational and cultural spaces. The development will also include the reconstruction of the existing Town House, which currently serves as the library, gallery, and ceremonial hall, and will eventually house a museum dedicated to the district’s history.
“We began with the goal of modernizing the ZUŠ and expanding the library, but the project has grown to include additional facilities,” Mayor Pavlíková explained. “The campus will introduce a multi-purpose community hall for public performances, debates, and presentations, and will also feature a museum celebrating our district’s rich heritage.”
The project, based on a prior architectural and urban planning study, includes plans for two new buildings: one for the ZUŠ and another for the library, which will include a social hall with a capacity for 100 people. The existing Town House will be renovated to accommodate the new museum and retain its role as a community space.
The town hall has recently announced a tender for the design work of the ZUŠ building, with an estimated value of CZK 15 million excluding VAT. The final construction costs for the ZUŠ are projected to be around CZK 100 million, with approximately 25% of this amount covered by a subsidy from Prague City Hall. The remainder will be funded through municipal resources and additional financial sources currently being sought.
According to Mayor Pavlíková, the new ZUŠ is expected to welcome students in the 2026/27 school year. She emphasized that subsequent phases of the project will follow a similar funding approach, involving a combination of municipal funding and external subsidies.
