Discount retailer Lidl opened a new unit in Timisoara, in western Romania, bringing its network of stores in the country to 140. The discounter announced earlier that it intended to reach 200 stores by the end of the year through an investment of €70m. Part of Lidl & Schwarz group, which has 9,000 discount stores around Europe, Lidl acquired the Plus Discount chain’s entire Romanian network of 107 stores, before re-branding and re-opening them.
