Auchan plans to open its twentieth store in Győr, despite the official stop place on Hungarian retail development by a new law since the beginning of the year. They company can build the store if it receives an exemption from the restrictions (it’s believed to have received this). Auchan had only 12 hypermarkets until the end of 2011, but this year it acquired seven Hungarian Cora stores, a move that’s been approved by the European Commission’s Competition Directorate. Dominique Ducoux, Hungarian CEO claims that Auchans’ expansion is forcing its competitors to reduce its prices.
