Mortgages are becoming as popular as they were before the crisis. In January the total volume of mortgages granted by banks has surpassed CZK 9.2bn, writes the economic daily Hospodářské noviny. The number indicates 160 percent growth year-on-year, and the best January result since mortgages were first offered in the Czech market. The total volume of loans for homes from both banks and building savings banks achieved CZK 12.3bn. The numbers indicate that demand for loans is similar to that before the crisis in 2008. Low interest rates and discounts on sales prices on flats are behind the increased demand.
