28 June 2024

Those planning to go on holiday account for around 80% of those surveyed (similar to last year), according to a survey by consultancy Deloitte. On the other hand, 73% of those not going on holiday cited lack of funds as the main reason for such a decision (down 7 pct. y/y), and 22% of people (+ 5 pct. y/y) in this group said that they intend to use the money they would spend on a holiday for another purpose.

According to the Consumer Signals survey conducted at the end of May this year, those who are determined to go on holiday are most likely to go to destinations far from home (31% of responses). 23% of representatives of this group (- 3 percentage points y/y) search for low-budget bargains and adjust their holiday plans accordingly, while 13% (-1 percentage point y/y) are primarily driven by the desire to visit a particular destination.

“The summer months are traditionally a time of leisure holidays for Poles. Significantly, this year, the proportion of those giving up their holidays for financial reasons has decreased significantly. At the same time, more and more people are planning to spend the money they would have spent on a holiday on other purposes, such as holiday renovation. This may mean that some Polish consumers are planning their holidays outside the peak season,” said senior manager, economic analysis team, Deloitte Aleksander Łaszek.

28% of all Polish respondents choose to travel abroad by plane as part of their holiday (+3 pct y/y). However, the most popular means of holiday transport remains the train, which every second respondent intends to use. When it comes to accommodation, the most preferred choice is hotel (42%, +2pp. y/y), with the second most popular option being to rent a flat or holiday home (33%, +3pp. y/y).
