The long-awaited grand opening of the Tesco store on Prague’s Národní třída took place yesterday. The 2,300 m² store is again located on the first underground floor, as customers are used to. The assortment, space and design of the store are designed in a unique way that corresponds to its location in the centre of Prague. It is open every day from 7 am to 24 pm.
Residents and visitors to the centre of Prague have finally seen the return of their favourite Tesco store to Prague’s Národní třída in OC Máj. “The Tesco store on Národní třída is a matter of the heart for us. We have been at this address since 1996, when we entered the Czech market. We are thrilled to welcome our customers here again in a new unique concept. We believe that they will also like and enjoy shopping with us. Thank you to all our colleagues who have been involved in the demanding and intensive preparation of our great return,” said Katarína Navrátilová, CEO of Tesco Czech Republic, at the opening ceremony. The ribbon was cut with her by the British Ambassador in Prague, Matt Field, who came to support Tesco as a traditional British company. He said. I am delighted that Tesco has become one of the leading companies in the Czech Republic. It is also great to see the impact Tesco is having on Czech society through its initiatives on the environment, disadvantaged citizens and local communities.” Tomáš Prouza, President of the Confederation of Commerce and Tourism, Aleš Slavíček, Chairman of the Czech Federation of Food Banks and Přemysl Bareš, Tesco National Store Manager, joined the ceremony.
“We want customers to enjoy shopping in a pleasant environment. We have adapted the design, materials and lighting of the store to this. At the same time, as a leader in sustainability and as part of our commitment to bring something extra to the planet, we focused on the environmental friendliness of the operation,” said Katarína Navrátilová. The store therefore uses energy-saving fluorescent lamps, an eco-friendly CO2 cooling system, electricity-saving doors on the refrigerators and electric ovens in the bakery. To create a more pleasant environment, there are more wooden elements. In the bakery and checkout area, a brick façade design has been chosen, which among other things points to Tesco’s British origins. The product range focuses on fresh foods such as fruit, vegetables, bakery, dairy products, plant-based alternatives, as well as a variety of snacks, bargain menus ideal for lunch and snacks, ready meals, soft and alcoholic drinks, foreign cuisine and premium goods. At the same time, customers can buy drugstore, pet food, household supplies and stationery.
For payment, customers can use 22 self-service checkouts or the Scan&Shop service, which allows customers to scan and pay for goods directly during the purchase process. For those interested, there are 10 crawler checkouts, 2 of which are for the disabled. The store also includes Tesco Mobile services.
Loyal Clubcard customers can get a 20% discount on all products during the first two days (24-25 June) to mark the opening. There are special promotions for the first month. As a good neighbour on the occasion of the grand opening, Tesco supported the local Life 90 organisation with a cheque of CZK 50,000. Unsold surpluses will be offered to the Food Bank of Prague and the Central Bohemia Region.
