The number of company registrations increased by 2.6% y/y, while bankruptcy – decreased by 12.5% y/y in Q4. 2023, according to the Central Statistical Office (GUS).
“In the fourth quarter of 2023, there were 88,505 registrations of enterprises, i.e. 2.6% more than in the same period last year and 98 bankruptcies, i.e. 12.5% less than in the fourth quarter of 2022.
In the fourth quarter of last year, the largest increase in the number of registrations was observed in accommodation and gastronomy (by 15%) and in services (by 9.3%). The decrease in the number of registrations occurred in two sections: information and communication (by 20.5%) and transport and warehouse management (by 1.3%), according to the Central Statistical Office (GUS).
A decrease in the number of insolvencies was recorded in industry (26 to 34), construction (12 vs. 14), information and communication (4 vs. 6), transport and warehouse management (2 vs 7) and other sections (1 vs 3). The increase in the number of insolvencies occurred in services (17 vs. 16) and in accommodation and gastronomy (7 vs 3). However, in the sector, trade and repair of motor vehicles the number of insolvencies has not changed (remaining at level 29), the Office also reported.
The number of insolvencies in a given quarter applies to the companies to which it was issued, in a given quarter by the competent District Court, the decision on the declaration of bankruptcy.
The number of registrations in a given quarter applies to companies that were entered in the National Register of Official Interests of National Economy (REGON). Registrations also include individuals who have liquidated and re-established their business.
