NuScale builds the world’s first small-scale nuclear power plant in Doicesti

Virgil Popescu, the Minister of Energy, announced the place where the first small modular power plant in the world will be built by the Americans from NuScale.

“We have completed the site study and I can tell you that the first SMR project (small modular reactors) will be on the site of the Doiceşti thermal power plant. We move on to the design of the project,” said Virgil Popescu, Minister of Energy.

Romania, together with the American partner NuScale, would like to complete the construction of the first commercial SMR in 2027-2028.

The plant will have 420 MW, will contain 6 modules, and in addition solar projects will be built up to a total capacity of 600 MW.

Teofil Mureşan, the owner of Electrogroup, owns the land and the location in Doiceşti.
