The complete suspension of the import of Russian crude oil will be a big challenge, but thanks to the investments carried out by PERN in recent years, the company will cope with this situation, announced Igor Wasilewski, president of PERN.
“Withdrawal from imports of Russian crude oil will undoubtedly change the way the PERN capital group operates, primarily Naftoport, but also PERN itself. We already had a sample of such a situation during the so-called chloride crisis, when crude oil did not flow through the Druzhba pipeline for 46 days. the experience we gained three years ago will have to be translated into permanent practice and operate even at a higher turnover 365 days a year. I am convinced that thanks to the investments carried out in recent years, we will complete all the necessary tasks in this area,” Wasilewski said in an interview with ISBnews during the European Economic Congress (EKG) in Katowice.
Naftoport’s capacity is around 36 million tonnes of crude oil per year, of which 27 million tonnes are used by the refineries in Płock and Gdańsk, and the rest can be managed by the German side.
“The suspension of deliveries from the East will undoubtedly be a great logistical challenge, which will require precise management of tanker traffic so that the raw material can be unloaded efficiently and on an ongoing basis, ” added the president.
As he emphasized, it should also be remembered that 100% of the crude oil coming to Naftoport will come from directions other than Russia, which means the need for extremely efficient management of individual types of raw material.
“Here, the key will be crude oil tanks, both on the PERN side and in the refineries themselves, so that the installations can receive the appropriate mixtures. Let me remind you that in the last two years we have put into operation as many as 7 new crude oil tanks with a capacity of almost 600,000 . m3,” explained the head of PERN.
According to recent announcements, the government plans to abandon Russian oil by the end of this year.
