The government has proposed changes to the law that will prevent the import of coal from Russia, government spokesman Piotr Muller said. Currently, such imports are mainly carried out by private companies.
The provisions concerning this ban were proposed by the Ministry of Climate and Environment and were included in the draft act on special solutions for counteracting aggression in Ukraine.
“Referring to the safety clauses, we went a step further in those provisions that were […] proposed, ie we entered provisions that block the import of coal from Russia at the national level and this will be entered directly into the law” – Muller said during a press conference.
“We are aware that this may raise legal doubts, unfortunately justified doubts, but we cannot wait any longer for the reaction of the European Union in this regard, so such a ban will also be introduced to this law,” he added.
