ABB installed 150 charging stations for electric cars in Czechia 2021

27 January 2022

ABB, a company operating in the energy and automation industries, installed 150 charging stations for electric cars in the Czech Republic last year. This is the highest amount so far, a year earlier it completed 118. At the end of last year, 450 of them were in operation, and since the beginning of this year, their number has increased to 457. Representatives of the company informed ČTK today.

ABB is involved in the installation of high-performance to high-performance chargers, ie with a power of more than 50 kilowatts. According to data from the Center for Transport Research (CDV), there were 799 charging stations in the Czech Republic at the end of September last year with 1,525 charging points. According to the head of ABB Elektrotechnika’s division, Vladimír Janypka, there is room on the market for up to twice as many charging stations, given the current number of electric cars.

“We want to exceed last year’s goal,” Janypka said today, adding that ABB is only a technology supplier and that the total number of charging stations installed does not depend on the company. However, according to him, the whole preparation process is accelerating on the part of the builders. “These processes are already significantly better, which accelerates the speed of construction. If all this is in line, we will certainly overcome it, we are ready in terms of deliveries,” said Janypka.

ABB is involved in building a network of fast charging stations in cooperation with the largest electricity suppliers in the Czech Republic, such as ČEZ, PRE or E.ON. In addition, the station supplies Lidl supermarkets.

There are currently around 10,000 electric cars and dozens of hydrogen cars in the Czech Republic. Two-fifths of electric cars are registered in Prague. The Ministry of Transport wants to invest 5.5 billion crowns in the construction of charging stations for electric cars by 2027. Another roughly CZK 500 million will go to hydrogen filling stations. So far, the ministry has invested about a billion crowns through the Transport Operational Fund.
