This morning, the energy company CEZ will announce an increase in the price of electricity and gas valid from the beginning of 2022. In mid-October, CEZ CEO Daniel Benes estimated an increase in electricity prices of about a third and gas prices of half to two thirds. The price increase will apply to customers who do not have a price fixed for next year. At the most common D02 rate so far, customers paid CZK 1,700 without VAT for a megawatt hour.
The new energy prices will be valid from 1 January. CEZ CEO Daniel Benes has previously stated that the wholesale price has risen to record levels throughout Europe this year. According to him, there are several reasons. “On the one hand, it is an increase in the price of gas, with which the price of electricity is connected, on the other hand, emission allowances have become more expensive and the economy has risen in time, so the demand for energy has risen,” he said. According to Beneš, the increase in gas prices will be even higher than for electricity.
Wholesale prices of electricity and gas have recently risen to record highs, with some price lists of suppliers rising by tens of percent or many times. In addition to the impact on consumers, the situation has also caused problems for some suppliers. In mid-October, Bohemia Energy announced its termination with approximately 900,000 customers, Kolibřík energie with 28,000 clients and A-PLUS Energie obchodní with 150 consumption points.
