At the beginning of October, T-Mobile will start switching off its older 3G mobile network in Moravia. He planned the complete termination of its operation at the end of November. He wants to use the released frequencies in the 2100 MHz band for the development of the 5G network. Most users should not feel a network shutdown.
Competitive Vodafone 3G shut down at the end of March this year. O2 began to gradually shut down the network in three steps from the end of May. The reason is also the use of frequencies for newer 5G technology.
According to spokesperson Zuzana Svobodová, it will affect less than one percent of T-Mobile customers, as the vast majority of currently used mobile phones use LTE technology for data transmissions and newly sold smartphones are increasingly supporting 5G networks. The oldest phones without a connection to the mobile Internet will continue to use the GSM network for voice calls and SMS, which remains in full operation and its coverage is significantly wider than the coverage of the 3G network.
The procedure for verifying whether the customer is ready to switch off the 3G network can be found at http://www.t-mobile.cz/3g. T-Mobile informed private and corporate customers who may be affected by the termination of the 3G network via SMS or e-mail.
The 3rd generation (3G) mobile network, using UMTS technology, was launched by the Czech T-Mobile in 2009. It was the first mobile network capable of high-speed data transmissions, which ushered in the era of mobile Internet services that continues to this day. The transmission speed in the 3G network reached 14.4 Mbit / s for downloading and 5.7 Mbit / s for data upload. At present, UMTS is an obsolete technology, first replaced by LTE technology in 4G networks with ten times the speeds and now also by 5G mobile networks.
