Retail sales in Greece decreased by EUR 15 billion in 2020

8 January 2021

The vice president of the Association of Business and Retail Sales of Greece (SELPE), Antonis Zairis estimates that the losses in retail sale for 2020 will amount to EUR 15 billion. In 2019, the total retail turnover approached EUR 44 billion, while last year, due to restrictions, it is predicted that it dropped to close to EUR 30 billion. Decrease in revenues over the holiday period came to about EUR 1.5 billion, although that figure would have been even higher if it had not been for the click and collect system.

Trade Secretary-General Panagiotis Stamboulidis said that click-and-collect is set to return on Monday, January 11, click-in-shop will likely follow suit, although it remains unclear when that is to be implemented, but that would be great help to this sector toward the full reopening of retail stores.
