Profits at the largest Czech lottery company Sazka Group fell 58 percent to CZK 2.38 billion (€90. million) over the first three quarters of the year. The company is owned by KKCG, the private equity company owned by the Czech billionaire Karel Komarek. “All of our companies did good business in the third quarter,” claimed Sazka’s director Robert Chvatal. “The anti-Covid restrictions were loosened and online sales remained high. The rapid return to normal sales shows how robust basic demand for our products is.” Sazka is expanding its reach into other European lottery companies, including the acquisition of a 55.48 percent share in Casinos Austria and a 40 percent stake in Greece’s largest better firm OPAP. Sazka also owns 32.5 percent of LottoItalia. Over the fall, Sazka Group announced that it would be competing for a licence to operate the British national lottery company.
