EP Global Commerce has increased its share in the German retail chain Metro to 37 percent, up from the 29.99 percent it controlled until recently. Metro operates the Makro network of stores in the Czech Republic. EPGC is owned by the Czech businessman Daniel Kretinsky together with his Slovak partner Daniel Tkac. The increase in their shareholding was achieved in a way that does not require them to announce a formal takeover attempt by offering €8.48 per share. Shareholders who didn’t take advantage of the offer have until November 17 to do so. The Czechoslovak pair have been challenging for control of Metro since 2018 when the company’s board of directors rejected its offer. In the meantime, Metro has been selling off some of its assets, including its online shop and its chain of grocery stores in Germany. There are 13 Makro Cash & Carry stores in the Czech Republic.
