Tomáš Čupr, owner of online grocery retailer Rohlik.cz, says his company picked up a huge number of new customers during the lockdown. Of the coronavirus pandemic. In the first weeks of the crisis, he says thousands of people were standing in virtual lines in front of the doors of the eshop. “This year we’re planning to double our turnover again to reach CZK 8m,” he told the magazine Forbes. Rohlik is also planning to enter the Austrian market but Čupr told 4 that it would trade under a different name in its southern neighbor – Gurkel. “I think it’s the right name for the Austrian market,” he said. The company entered the Hungarian market last year under the name Kifli (which is Hungarian for bread roll), where Čupr says the competition just isn’t up to the task for now as they only offer next-day delivery. Rohlik aims for 3-hour delivery in Budapest, which Čupr says is slower than the 2-hour service Prague residents can get because Budapest is much larger and its traffic is worse than Prague.
