Tesco’s Slovak division is struggling to keep up with demand from customers and is desperately trying to hire more people in order to cope. Consumer are continuing to stock up on rice, flour and potatoes at a rate that’s faster than its staff can put on the shelves. Tesco’s head of HR Miroslava Rychtárechová told the daily Pravda she had launched an intensive recruiting campaign to take on new temporary staff willing to fill a number of jobs on a flexible basis. She needs people at cash registers, stocking shelves but also to handle on-line sales and says the company will take care of any needed training. The daily reports that other grocery retailers are having the same difficulties as sales have more than doubled in some locations. Online retailers are having similar difficulties, as some are unable to promise delivery in less than three weeks, while reports by Slovak consumers whose orders were simply cancelled are growing.
