Panic buying hit German stores this week, with consumers buying large quantities of canned foods, toilet paper, pasta and other non-perishable goods. The result has been an emptying of the shelves in countless stores, though such problems tend to be only temporary. The country’s major grocery chains claim such inconveniences are not the norm and that there’s no shortage of any types of goods, meaning that consumer shouldn’t have major difficulties in stocking up on goods. If the pattern of other European countries holds, the sudden buying spree should come to an end once households feel comfortable with the level of their supplies. Stores are keeping higher levels of stocks in the affected goods to keep up with demand. A total of 260 people are currently confirmed to have been infected by the coronavirus in Germany. Officials at LogiMAT 2020, a key trade fair that takes place each year in Stuttgart, announced that the event had been cancelled.
