The largest Czech online shop Alza.cz produced turnover of CZK 29.3bn in 2019, a record year in which it handled 12.3 million orders and sold 37 million items to 4 million separate customers. A full 56 percent of the orders it received were made by credit card, while 55 percent of all visitors to the company’s website were made on mobile phones. The busiest day of the year was December 16 when the sales reached CZK 263m. Alza’s vice chairman Tomáš Havryluk said the company’s biggest foreign success came in Hungary where turnover rose 69 percent over 2018, while in Slovakia the figure was virtually identical with that in Czechia: 15.4 percent. In order to handle its rapidly expanding customer base, Alza opened a new call center in the town of Třinec in 2019.
