Czech car sector growth peaked in 2018

1 July 2019

The Czech automobile industry, including manufacturers and parts suppliers produced revenues last year of CZK 1.1 trillion. That was a 0.8 percent rise over 2017, according to the Automobile Industry Association, whose president Bohdan Wojnar says the sector has peaked. “From the data of our members and from public sources we can see a considerable decline in the pace of growth compared to previous years and the exhaustion of the labor market.” He said that he expected the trend to continue in 2019. Exports by the sector also rose last year slightly (0.3 percent), with 31 percent directed towards Germany and 7 percent to France. In all, 1.4 million cars were produced in the Czech Republic in 2018, the fifth year in a row to see growth. The average sector wage rose 8.7 percent to CZK 40,865, 28 percent higher than the national average.
