Lidl is planning to open a new store in the town of Ilava, Slovakia, since the old one is no longer big enough to match the discount grocer’s plans. The news in this story isn’t the new store, but rather what the company will make out of old one: an outlet store. The Slovak server Trend reports that the non-food items that the company fails to sell to its customers will be collected and brought to the store to be sold at discounts of up to 70 percent. In order to minimize costs, Lidl won’t even be advertising which goods will be for sale at what prices. The website of the Slovak daily SME reports that the company has tried this in other European countries, but it’s a first for Central Europe.
