Last week, when Czech Social Democrats (CSSD) rolled out their idea to have the Czech Republic should implement a special tax on banks, prime minister Jan Babis rejected the idea. But it now appears he’s singing a different tune and is willing to debate the issue. The change of heart, he says, took place after seeing a presentation by the head of CSSD to the Ministry of Finance which envisions collecting CZK 14bn in additional funds. Babiš appears to be interested in the idea, to the extent that he’s considering a similar one for the operators of mobile telephones.
